Level-
is a graded system of various dance styles:
Ballet
– is Cecchetti technique of classical
ballet. Proper Barre, center
and cross floor turns and leaps.
Jazz
- We teach American Jazz. Jazz
is based on ballet technique and style is influenced by music.
Our movements, steps and combinations are the classic technique;
they are tasteful including music selection.
Tap
– Understanding the shoe as a percussion instrument, while part is treble
and bass. Classical tap,
proper stance, dynamics, rhythm influenced by music.
The shoes have metal plates on the ball and heel creating metallic
rhythmic sound.
Lyric
– used to be a description of a dance discipline such as “Lyrical Ballet”
“Lyrical Jazz” or “Lyrical Tap” the music influenced the style and
movement which was interpreted by the feel of music as well as the lyrics
of the song selection. In the
early to mid 80’s it evolved into its own discipline.
Lyric is best described as a cross between ballet and Jazz with
description arm, facial and body movement.
Acrobats
– Like gymnastics but no apparatus floor work:
Instead of a sport, it is an art form.
Very similar just different in style.
Warm-up, stretching, cartwheels, backbends, walkovers, flips, back
extensions, back handsprings, etc.
Hip Hop
- Hip hop dancing is an ideal way to express one's creativeness. It
features self impressions and the dances come from the soul. The dancing
represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop
music.
Voice Class-
This class is designed to teach the basics of voice and music in general.
It is perfect for the beginner and allows the student a chance to see if
he/ she would like to pursue further study. This class will not only teach
students proper breathing techniques and voice placement, but will give
them the basic knowledge of styles and genres. It will also teach them the
basics of reading music. Do not be alarmed if your student does not come
home sounding like Demi Levato or Justin Beiber after a few lessons. The
first few lessons will focus mainly on teaching students how to read music
and basic techniques of singing.
Private Voice-
This class is designed for singers who have demonstrated natural
talent and a desire to move forward with an in-depth study of the voice.
It is my wish that singers leave my studio well rounded and ready to step
into a university setting or a career with the skills to be successful.
Learning different styles and genres will be a requirement. It will be my
responsibility to help the student learn how to develop characters and
connect with their audience. I have seen many incredible singers who could
have won a competition or a job, but have lost out to less talented
singers based on their lack of connection to a character or lyrics.
Age and Voice-
Why 14 to start private lessons? Well, this has a lot to do with
development and vocal stability. The norm is after puberty when the voice
has settled into a more stable environment. This is especially true of
young males, but a young woman’s voice can be just as unstable. Before
this age, a teacher is really trying to teach proper technique so bad
habits don’t form and to correct any fledgling habits from taking hold as
a young singer develops. Of course, there are exceptions, and I will be
more than happy to evaluate your child’s readiness on a case by case
basis.
